Escape! Season 1, Episode 4: Coast to Coast

“Good evening and welcome back. This is... Escape! Tonight our teams are racing across the country, some going east, some west, heading for - “
“Uh Mr. Cagney?” said the balding man behind the camera.
Chance Cagney pursed his lips and held his rage in check. “You just ruined the shot, Bob.”
“It’s Tom, actually. And we weren’t rolling, sorry.”
Cagney sighed. He was used to more professionalism than this. “You are aware I am also executive producer, director and writer, in addition to being the star of this little production, aren’t you?”
“Well, yes sir,” said Tom the camera man, who gave the other crew members a nervous glance. They all avoided looking at him. “But...”
    “But what, Bob?”
“It’s Tom. Aren’t the kids the stars?”
Cagney smiled a little smile that made him look more sinister than mirthful, like a snake preparing to snap it’s mouth open and strike. “Why, of course they are. They are the talent, the reason why we are going to be the biggest thing since that show about the castaways, whatever it was called. And do you, Tom, know what won’t be part of that success?”
Tom gulped and shook his head no.
“You,” said Cagney, and smiling sweetly he nodded at a couple hulking security goons. As Tom was dragged away, Cagney straightened his tie. When he looked up someone had already replaced Tom and was giving him the thumbs up.
Chance Cagney cleared his throat again and started over.
“Good evening, I am your host Chance Cagney. Tonight our teams are racing to opposite ends of the country, bound for challenges unknown and chased, literally running for their lives. Should they succeed, their reward will be truly magical. Should they fail, there will be no escape from their fate. Hold on to your chair, because this... is Escape!”

Week Three!

"Welcome again to Escape!" Chance Cagney said, staring at the camera with his award winning smile. At least, he hoped it would win him some awards. "When we last left our contestants, they were proving their worth in our mirror maze of horrors. So far, all the teams have worked cohesively together to win the challenge. As a reward each got their night off to relax and reflect on the events of the fun house.

"Come with us as we get to know our five teams further. What do they love? What do they fear? What drives them to success? There's even a forbidden romance...."

"The Funhouse" (Season 1, Episode 2)

“Mr. Cagney, are you ready? We’re about to go on.”
Chance Cagney turned from his makeup mirror. “Of course,” he told the producer’s assistant.
He slid out of his chair and headed for his stage entrance. He waltzed onto the stage and stood on his mark, just as the director began to count down. He adjusted his suit, and then flashed the camera a baleful grin just as they went live.
“Hello, everyone, and welcome to Escape!” he gestured grandly.
He turned toward a second camera as it pulled in for a close-up. “When we last saw our teams, they had just awakened in their respective hotel rooms. They managed to free themselves from their bonds and elude The Hunters . . . barely.”
He turned back to the first camera. “Now our heroes are on the road to the Snowy River Carnival, where much more difficult challenges await them. Let’s join them and see what happens . . .”

Escape! Season 1, Episode 1

The lights dimmed, and the spotlight came on, illuminating a well dressed gentleman. Behind the camera, a director counted down the seconds, and when the suspenseful music started the host looked right into the camera.

“Five teams, completely different, but they all have one thing in common. Society has deemed them delinquents, wrongdoers, vicious hooligans who should be locked up to pay for their crimes...”

His head snapped around dramatically as he looked into another camera.

“But are they really? Or are they just misunderstood youths, tragic heroes of today’s society?”

Suddenly a smug look came over him, and he flashed a grin.

“Then again, these aren’t just simple children. No no, there is a lot more than meets the eye. Each contestant has a gift...or a curse. They were born with supernatural abilities unlike anything you, the audience have ever seen before. During the course of this show, we will put our teams to the test, challenge them in ways they cannot imagine. Their prize?”

He let out a chuckle that was almost inappropriate.

“Absolution from their crimes, along with something each desires more than anything else. The question remains, will they use their powers for good...or for evil? This is Escape!”

The lights came on, and the theme music played. The host flashed a dazzling smile at the camera.

“Good evening, I’m Chance Cagney, your host! Escape features five teams with five members each, all with supernatural abilities, all who have committed a crime of sorts for which the law will surely punish them. Unless they win this contest. Over the course of the show, each team will have to complete various challenges as they travel across the United States, and as if that wasn’t challenging enough, we’ve added another little twist...”

He waved a hand at a monitor behind him. It immediately came to life, showing several lethal looking men and women, armed with stun guns and the like. Chance gave the camera a look of mock-sheepishness.

“Our Hunters are trained to sense the contestants anytime they are in the vicinity. Will they be able to stop our teams? We shall see. Let’s meet the contestants, shall we?”

The monitor changed, now showing photographs of five people.

“The Blacklist Heroes! Lucas, Iris, Elias, Liz aaaaaaand Zeta!”

In a flash, the pictures had changed.

“Team Gremlin! Quentin, Prudence, Wes, Abe, and my personal favorite, Fran!”

Chance winked at the camera as if sharing a secret with them, then the pictures were changing again.

“Next we have Team Introv3rsion! Ryan, Cory, Coty, Ipod and Toby!”

The photographs lingered a moment longer before they were replaced again.

“Allow me to introduce Team Promethiad! Adrian, Lily, Jesse, Moira aaaaaand Will! And last but not least...”

As he continued to speak, the monitor changed one final time.

“Warazi! Zaire, Eyota, RA, Cian and Zayda!”

The monitor dimmed, and Chance folded his hands behind his back, looking a lot like the cat that ate the canary.

“Our teams do not know what exactly is going on yet, but they’ll find out very soon. They are about to be faced with their first challenge in a small town in Colorado called Snowy River, and then it’s up to them...and you, the audience. At the end of our show we will open our lines to allow you to vote for your favorite team. Help them win their freedom back, or toss them in a cell and throw away the key. Now! Let’s take a look at the action as it unfolds...”
